Child Safety

The first promise we make — and the last we'll ever break.

For an organization built around adults and children, nothing matters more than this. Our safeguarding standards aren't buried in a policy binder. They're public, and they're non-negotiable.

“No program goal, donor relationship, or growth target will ever come before a child's safety.”

Our founding commitment to child protection
The code of conduct

Clear lines, every adult, every time.

Always
  • Keep the two-adult rule — no adult is ever alone with a child
  • Keep every interaction observable and interruptible
  • Use only approved, monitored channels to communicate with a child
  • Respect physical boundaries and a child's right to say no
Never
  • Never be alone one-on-one with a child in private settings, vehicles, or private messages
  • Never use physical discipline, demeaning language, or humiliation
  • Never give gifts, money, or special favors to a single child
  • Never share a child's image or information without signed consent

Safer recruitment

  • A written application and interview for every role with child contact
  • A criminal background check — renewed every two years, no exceptions
  • At least two reference checks
  • A signed code of conduct before any child contact

Training, then refreshers

  • Everyone with child contact completes safeguarding training before starting
  • Annual refreshers on recognizing abuse and boundaries
  • Online safety and appropriate communication
  • Exactly how — and when — to report a concern
If something isn't right

How we respond to a concern.

We record facts, report fast, and never investigate ourselves. A named Designated Safeguarding Lead owns this process and ensures every report is made.

Immediate danger → 911

If a child is in immediate danger, we call emergency services first. Always.

Report the same day

Any concern goes to our Designated Safeguarding Lead the same day it's raised.

Mandated report

We make the required report to Colorado child-protection authorities or law enforcement.

Facts only

We record the facts and never run our own investigation. Confidentiality is protected.
